Beyond Reach
” Deep within the majestic Jichudrakey Mountain lies a tale of wealth and sacrifice, where a nomad’s greed summoned a powerful deity, forever intertwining fate and legend.“
Jichudrakey mountain is second to Jumolhari mountain and they share the same glaciers.
Jichudrakey is the guardian diety of Soe Gewog and especially for Jangothang village!
A beautiful story to narrate and it is as follows, there is a legend called as Bjob(Nomad) Matagukay and he was very rich with cattle. He has 108 sheds for his cattle (Yaks, goats, sheeps, horses, etc). He always pray and offer Jichudrakey with fresh Yak meat as its considerd eatable. And for doing so, yearly he is blessed with more cattle. So he became a landlord in that particular place. Present, it is called as Jangothang. So other poor nomads come to him and seek for help. He supports them and it was one of those days where he lived like a king!
One day, he thought that he is always blessed with more cattle when he offer fresh meat. So, an idea crossed his mind and he took into consideration. And the day came for this year to offer his diety with fresh meat. So he went to horses shed and he chooses one of the best horse. A big, bold and spirited one. And he offered the meat with some enthusiastic offering words. Then he went back to his tent and started having breakfast with his wife.
After a while, the glacier started melting, each shed of cattle started boiling and making big pools. And this noise alerted Bjob Matagukay and his wife. When they came out of tent to see whats happening, tentatively both of them started escaping. However, Bjob Matagukay couldn’t survive as deity folded him in the boiling soil. His wife ran as possible as she can and when she reached between Lingzhi and Laya, deity turned into a big rock and started rolling towards her. In which she was put under this rock and the legend of Bjob Matagukay came to an end.
It is believed that there are 108 pools below the Jichudrakey mountain.
It is even believed that if any of the nomads get any piece of things of the legend then he/she can get rich. It is believed that if you are lucky enough then you can see the jewelleries of the wife under the rock.
