Day 1: Arrival in Paro and Transfer to Thimphu

Distance: 50 km | Duration: Approx. 1.5 hours | Altitude: 2,320 m

Highlights:

Arrive at Paro International Airport, the only international airport in Bhutan.
Transfer to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan.
Visit Tashichho Dzong, a fortress and Buddhist monastery that serves as the administrative center and seat of the Bhutanese government.
Explore the National Memorial Chorten, a stupa built in memory of the third king of Bhutan.
Stroll around the Centenary Farmers Market, where you can find a variety of local produce and handicrafts.

Day 2: Exploring Thimphu

Distance: 0 km | Duration: Full day | Altitude: 2,320 m

Highlights:

Visit the Buddha Dordenma statue, one of the largest Buddha statues in the world, offering panoramic views of the valley.
Explore the Folk Heritage Museum to learn about Bhutanese rural life.
Head to the National Library, which houses an extensive collection of Buddhist texts and manuscripts.
Visit the Institute for Zorig Chusum, where students are trained in Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts.
Enjoy a traditional Bhutanese meal at a local restaurant.

Day 3: Transfer to Punakha

Distance: 75 km | Duration: Approx. 2.5 hours | Altitude: 1,200 m

Highlights:

Drive to Punakha, the former capital of Bhutan.
Stop at Dochula Pass, which offers stunning 360-degree panoramic views of the Himalayan mountain range.
Visit Punakha Dzong, one of the most beautiful dzongs in Bhutan, located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers.
Explore Chimi Lhakhang, a temple dedicated to the Divine Madman, a revered Buddhist saint.

Day 4: Return to Paro

Distance: 135 km | Duration: Approx. 4 hours | Altitude: 2,250 m

Highlights:

Drive back to Paro.
Visit the National Museum, housed in an ancient watchtower, showcasing Bhutanese culture.
Explore Paro Dzong, a fortress and Buddhist monastery.
Visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan.
Stroll around Paro town and visit local shops for souvenirs.

Day 5: Hike to Tiger’s Nest

Distance: 10 km | Duration: Approx. 4-5 hours | Altitude: 3,120 m
Highlights:

Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang), perched on a cliff and offering breathtaking views of the valley.
Departure from Bhutan, end of the tour.

What to Wear

• Trekking/outdoor clothing and fairly lightweight but sturdy walking shoes.

• Long sleeves and pants to protect against insects/mosquitoes.

• Light wool clothing to regulate body temperature.

• Good sunglasses and sunhat.

• Plenty of sunscreen.

• A raincoat or umbrella, as it can rain at any time.

Travel Arrangements

✓ Transportation: You will be picked up from Paro International Airport and driven to your hotel in Thimphu. All transportation during the tour, including to and from the festival, will be provided.

✓ Accommodation: You will be staying at a comfortable hotel in Thimphu that offers modern amenities while reflecting Bhutan’s traditional architecture and design.

✓ Meals: All meals will be provided during the tour. You will have the opportunity to taste a variety of Bhutanese dishes, including at the festival where local food stalls will be available.

Health and Safety

✓ Altitude Sickness: Thimphu is located at a high altitude. If you’re not used to such altitudes, you might experience altitude sickness. It’s recommended to acclimatize yourself before the tour and stay hydrated.

✓ Local Customs: Bhutan has a rich cultural heritage and locals appreciate when visitors respect their customs. For instance, when visiting religious sites, it’s important to dress modestly and follow the local etiquette.
